Pastel Workshop
The Dragonfly Gallery will be the site of a Pastel Workshop on Wednesday, February 18th from 9:00 till 2:00. This workshop will be conducted by local pastel artists, Elaine Woodward and Jan Shelby.
Pastels are made from the same pigments as all fine oil paints. Pastel pigments are mixed with a binder in order to make them in stick form. There are no oils or other liquids in pastels to cause the art to darken, bubble or crack over time. Framed under glass, it is the most permanent of mediums. Its genuine beauty is paralleled.
Manet, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Whistler are just a few artists to use pastel as finished work, rather than for preliminary sketches. Degas was the most prolific user of pastel, and its champion, for he raised it to the full brilliance of oil.
Cost for the workshop is $25.00, plus the cost of supplies, $14.00 (20 half-stick pastels, paper, mats and plastic bags). Participants will complete two paintings, a landscape and still life. Class size is limited; therefore, advanced registration and prepayment of fees are required. Bring a brown bag lunch and prepare for lots of fun. You may register by calling the Gallery, 981-1100.
The Dragonfly Gallery located at 5188 Escambia Street in historic downtown Milton, is a mission of the Santa Rosa Art and Culture Foundation. It is a juried gallery of local artists. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For more information contact the SRACF at www.SantaRosaArts.org.

Pyrate
River Cleanup Day
The Blackwater Pyrates
launch their Pyrate Cleanup Day that happens in conjunction
with the Great American Cleanup Day. Our effort
concentrate on the river and take on projects that non-Pyrates
usually can't do. On River Cleanup Day we remove hazards
to navigation in the Blackwater River, much of which was
deposited by Hurricanes. This year the Blackwater
Pyrates will be partnering with both the Sea Cadets and a
rival Pyrate Crew in our cleanup efforts.
If anyone would care to help out, they
can join the Pyrates by stopping in at Santa Rosa Jewelers and
get with Jules or Pearl or e-mail Captain Bones at:
