Your neighborhood…
The future of the Riverwalk South is bright.
Presently, within four blocks of your house is a new
coffee shop, two cafés, one with an outdoor bar, and the
historic Milton Opera House that offers regular off-Broadway
plays and houses a museum of Milton History.
All this and a future green space to be developed
across the street.
Experience it…
Experience warm summer nights, looking out over the
serene Blackwater River.
Riverwalk South is a boater’s dream, with gulf access
from your dock. For sailors, a mast height of 44 feet will
clear all downstream bridges.
This is the highest point on the river where that’s
possible. Boat touring to Alabama or South Florida is at your
fingertips.

In
2005 Tom and Ann Scott purchased the Riverfront property south
of the Veteran’s Memorial and the remaining land in the
southeast portion of Milton that ran north of the L&N
train tracks. This
property was home to eight storm ravaged structures, 5 of
which were abandoned due to safety concerns and one which was
in the process of being abandoned.
To make matters worse, the property faced a deserted
jail, the largest and ugliest building in town.
Actually, they originally set out to only buy one lot
to build their waterfront home, but as they looked around them
they suddenly imagined restaurants, small shops, and
turn-of-the-century residences facing a lush green park filled
with fountains and an outdoor entertainment complex.
Far fetched?
It’s now the summer of
2008. The southeast corner and railroad area is soon to be the home
of Willing
Street Station, our newest waterfront restaurant with
docking access. New
trees have been planted along the south and west borders of
this property that will soon be the site of a mix of
residential and commercial sites much like those that existed
in the late 1800’s. The
jail is gone thanks to a responsive county government and the
lobbying efforts of concerned citizens who joined in on this
facelift. The
Scott’s demolished 6 of the eight houses, renovating one for
a sales office and one for storage.
They removed the crumbling docks that were a menace to
navigation and planted native species along the shoreline to
bolster the eroding shoreline. Since these efforts began, the county and the city have begun
to discuss the conversion of the courthouse to provide for a
library, learning center and museum in a renovated historic
courthouse building when the new judicial center is built.
The old Barnes
Super Market building
located on the northeast corner of the proposed park is in the
process of being renovated to accommodate both offices and
living areas that overlook the proposed park.
The Main Street Café is in full swing on Caroline
Street serving gourmet dishes and sporting an outdoor bar.
Somewhere in the near future, the Blackwater
Grill will open its doors on the East Side of the park
and the Liberty
Café will open in the summer of 2007 on North Willing
Street. The
Liberty will join the newly opened Mudd
Pit
Coffee Shop that is only steps from your front
door. Oh yea, the park. The
city and county are beginning discussions about the
feasibility of a park and four different drawings are on the
table, each distinctly laying out an entertainment complex for
outdoor theater and movies.
As for the property you are looking at now, the five
remaining lots will be raised residences with single story
living accommodations.
In 2009 "The Barking Bass" restaurant will begin
construction on the boardwalk to service both the community
and the boating public.
Tom
and Ann will be glad to sit down with you and discuss
possibilities and variances.
Far Fetched?
In life we are only restricted by our inability to dream.
Our invitation to you is to come and experience the
quality of life that Riverwalk South has to offer.
The future of Riverwalk South is limitless. See
you on the river!
